Hypnotherapy works with that part of your brain called the ‘subconscious’.

It may surprise you to know that this part of your brain is the dominant part with us using only approximately 12% of brain power being referred to as the ‘rational’ mind, which controls the logical thinking patterns, willpower and rational decision making.

What is Hypnotherapy?

So how is it we struggle to changed habits that we know are dangerous to us, e.g. smoking or over eating.  The fact is that it is the ‘subconscious’ part of us (the remaining 88%) is using them to keep us safe!  Confused?  Well, many have put on a significant amount of weight from binge watching TV whilst mindlessly nibbling on snacks so, although we know that the constant emotional eating has created an imbalance in our health, which may have future medical issues, our subconscious sees this as a comfort. It is it’s job to keep us feeling safe and secure, so if these little snacks keep us from becoming stressed or anxious then who can argue with that?

In order to reverse unhealthy habits, we need to reaffirm that, the new habits we are going to introduce, are positive and will keep us safe, which is what the subconscious mind wants.  However, sometimes it is a bit more difficult for people to do this alone and this is where Hypnotherapy comes into play.  Using relaxation techniques, the power of suggestion and imagery it is possible to guide our subconscious to a different perspective.

Hypnotherapy - Who Benefits?

When used by qualified professionals it is possible to create a safe environment for safely exploring traumatic, painful or repressed emotions or memories, which the conscious mind wants to hide away. Many use this method to help stop smoking, lose weight and even assist with deeper issues such as addictions, grief and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

For whatever reason you turn towards hypnotherapy, know that whilst you are hypnotised, your mind is so deeply relaxed, that it is possible to use suggestion and imagery to release, or redirect, unhealthy habits or emotions in a safe environment.
